Qufu, hometown of Confucius, it takes half hour around by bus from the city we located to there. The students can travel it during the weekend,one day is enough to visit it.Qufu town is small and not developed, it is well-known only due to the birthplace of Confucius.
In ancients times,Qufu is the capital of Lu State during the Spring and Autumn Period. There are lots historic palaces, temples and cemeteries in it. Since 1994,the Qufu complex of monuments had been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Many of the major cultural sites are related with Confucius culture, and the most important sites are, Temple of Confucius, Cemetery of Confucius, and the Kong Family Mansion. During the warm seasons ,it is full of tourists, but the place is almost deserted in winter
Temple of ConfuciusQufu Confucius Temple,built in 478 B.C, is the original temple for sacrificing Confucius and more than two thousands other Confucius temples in China and foreign countries. The temple is the second largest historical building in China ,that covers about 16,000 square meters.
During the ancient times, the Temple of Confucius has undergone fifteen major renovations, thirty large repairs, and many small building measures.
Cemetery of ConfuciusThe Cemetery of Confucius is situated the north of Qufu, date back to the Zhou Dynasty, it is the oldest graves found in this area. The original tomb erected here in memory of Confucius on the bank of the Sishui River had the shape of an axe.A road runs from the north gate of Qufu to the outside gate of the cemetery in straight way. Kong Family Mansion (Kong Fu)
There are descendants of Confucius lived in the Kong family Mansion that is situated to the east of the temple. They conducts religious ceremonies on occasions such as plantings, harvests, honoring the dead, and birthdays. The mansion underwent a complete renovation in 1838 but it destroyed in fire later.It was rebuilt two years later.Now, the mansion own 152 buildings that cover an area of 12,470 square metres.
