Australian student training at a kung fu school in Japan, Osaka

Japan Osaka Kung Fu School is set in a beautiful old-style Japanese building, creating a unique environment for training at a kung fu school in Japan. There is a peaceful courtyard at the front where Tai Chi is practiced in the morning before breakfast, and where afternoon training is often held.

It is also a great place to relax during breaks and review what you have learned. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, including sushi, okonomiyaki, beef bowls, udon, and ramen. Misa no Yu, a local public hot spring, is only about a 700-meter walk away. It’s a great place to relax and recover after a full day of kung fu training in Osaka.

Japan Tea Ceremony

The cultural classes are a great part of the experience. We had tea ceremony, calligraphy, massage, as well as Chinese and Japanese language classes.Kathy, who leads these sessions, has a wealth of knowledge and makes the classes engaging and enjoyable.

This kung fu school in Japan is a great place to learn, especially for beginners. Many students here are starting from a similar level, which makes the learning process more supportive and comfortable. The training includes a balanced mix of hard and soft styles.Hard training covers forms, basic kicks, Shaolin movements, Sanda (Chinese kickboxing), and power training.Softer training includes Qigong, Baduanjin (moving qigong), and Tai Chi.

One of my favorite experiences was a guided Qigong session where a bell was used rhythmically, which added a completely different feeling to the practice.

Shifu is an excellent teacher. He is patient, highly skilled, and able to break down difficult movements into smaller steps, making them easier to learn. He encourages you to push yourself and is always willing to explain things clearly.

While training at this kung fu school in Japan, I recommend taking each day as a challenge.Everyone learns at a different pace and has different strengths. The most important thing is to compare yourself only to who you were yesterday.
