When I decided to come to the Japan Osaka Kung Fu School, I made a very deliberate choice: to arrive without any preconceived ideas about what it should be like. I wanted to experience it exactly as it is, without comparing it to any of my past training or expectations. I am so glad I did, because what I found here was a very special and unique place.
The school is in a great location, peaceful yet close to everything you need - shops, parks, a train station, and a great Japanese hot spring just minutes away. Training all day and then unwinding at the local onsen is a great way to spend time.

Shifu is truly exceptional. He is a brilliant martial artist with deep knowledge various styles of Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, etc. Equally important, Shifu is a great teacher. Patient, calm, and also tolerant of all types of students. He sees exactly what each person needs and adjusts the training accordingly.
And then there is Kathy, who is the main point of contact for the students. Kathy is the administrator, qi gong assistant instructor, organiser, translator, guide, and one of the friendliest, funniest people you will ever meet. Her kindness, humour, and constant encouragement make the entire experience smoother, lighter, and more meaningful. She and Shifu work together beautifully, always looking after the energy of the school and giving each person space to grow.
What also impressed me was the community. The school attracts friendly, intelligent, open-minded students from all walks of life. Nevertheless, most of them share similar interests in martial arts, spirituality, healing, healthy living, or simply reconnecting with themselves. Most mornings we practiced Tai Chi together as the sun rises, while in the afternoons we did forms, hit pads, or attempted to break bricks. Everyone arrives for their own reasons, but you quickly feel connected through the shared activities.
Training here allows you to go deep and you are given the time and space to really feel the effects physically, mentally, and spiritually. The peaceful atmosphere of the school, the Japanese-style rooms, the rhythm of daily routine, and the environment all help you settle into a different state of being. It is something that cannot truly be described; it has to be experienced.
I came here wanting to try something different and to experience the place without judgment. I left with new friends, a calmer mind, a stronger body, and a sense of gratitude.
This school is a very special place. I am thankful to Shifu, to Kathy, and to all the students who made this journey unforgettable. I will definitely return.
